If you wouldn’t mind indulging me, I’d like to share some of the notes my students gave me on my last day.

From one of my sophomores:

Dear Mr. Hall

I want to write you a letter saying that you are the best math teacher I have ever had in my life.  I can’t believe you are leaving and I hope that everything in California goes well and that if you become another math teacher at another high school, I hope you find another [redacted].  But that will be hard because you can’t find a lot of 4’11” girls with mohawks and squeaky voices.  Well maybe in California … everything is in California.  I’m really going to miss you because you were part of the reason I came to school everyday.  What teacher is going to wear American Eagle plaid shirts like you?  I don’t think any.  You are the nicest teacher, even when the class was sometimes acting crazy you were calm and you just always had hope in our class.  It will be hard to accept the other math teachers because they won’t be like you.  Maybe I’m just over exaggerating, but you’re an awesome teacher and if you come visit, don’t forget to look for me.

From one of my freshmen:

Dear Mr. Hall,

I can’t believe you are leaving us!!! I’m really upset and sad but I understand you miss your family and you have to be with them!  I’m really going to miss you for the next four months.  I won’t lie, but whoever our next teacher is going to be won’t be as good as you.  I hope the teacher lets us eat our breakfast and say jokes like you let us do!  The next teacher can’t be no where near as good as you! I know we gave you headaches sometimes, but we still loved you.

Well, it’s time to say goodbye! Enjoy California and the rest of your life.  OH! YEAH! tell your family how great I am (:

If you teach in September, good luck, and I know they will love you as much as we love you! <3  Enjoy life and please don’t forget about us! Have fun.

These guilt trips are killing me, but here’s one more from a student I only taught for a few days during the dreaded credit-recovery week:

Dear Mr. Hall

Thank you very much for helping me and being extreamly nice to me.  You helped me understand the work very much and did not get annoyed with me when I asked you a question.  I hope you enjoy your time in California, at lease its warm, and theres beaches everywhere, sun, and its the home of Hollister :) Have lots of fun.

Sincerely,

[Redacted] - a student you taught for 3 days

P.S. sorry if I spelt anything wrong.  I suck at spelling

Excuse me while I now let out the hugest sigh of my life.
